What is Dengue?

Dengue is a viral infection spread by Aedes mosquitoes, which usually bite during the daytime. It becomes common during the monsoon season, especially in areas with stagnant water. Dengue can affect people of all ages and spreads fast if not prevented early.

Common Symptoms of Dengue

The main symptoms of dengue include high fever, severe headache, body and joint pain, pain behind the eyes, and skin rashes. Some people may also experience vomiting, weakness, and in serious cases, bleeding from the nose or gums. These signs should not be ignored and need medical attention.

How to Prevent Dengue

The best way to prevent dengue is by stopping mosquito breeding. Do not let water collect in pots, coolers, flower vases, and old containers. Use mosquito nets, wear full-sleeved clothes, and apply mosquito repellent creams, especially during mornings and evenings.

Home Care for Dengue Patients

There is no specific medicine to cure dengue, but good care at home can help recovery. Drink plenty of fluids like water, coconut water, and fresh fruit juices to stay hydrated. Eat light, healthy food and take enough rest. Avoid taking painkillers like aspirin or ibuprofen unless a doctor advises.

When to See a Doctor

If the fever doesn’t go down in 2–3 days or if there are signs of bleeding, weakness, or low blood pressure, it is important to visit a hospital immediately. Early treatment can help prevent complications and save lives.
