What is High Blood Pressure?

High blood pressure, also called hypertension, means the pressure of blood in your arteries is too high. It often has no symptoms but can silently damage your heart, brain, and kidneys over time. That’s why it’s called a “silent killer.”

What Causes High Blood Pressure?

The most common reasons include eating too much salt, lack of exercise, obesity, stress, smoking, alcohol, and family history. Other causes can be kidney disease or hormonal problems. High BP can happen at any age, even in young adults.

How to Know if You Have It

Most people don’t feel any signs, so it’s important to check blood pressure regularly. In some cases, people may feel headache, dizziness, chest pain, or tiredness. If your BP is more than 140/90 mmHg, it's considered high and needs attention.

Tips to Control Blood Pressure Naturally

To manage BP, start by reducing salt in your food. Eat more fruits, vegetables, and low-fat foods. Stay active with regular walking or light exercises. Avoid smoking, limit alcohol, and try to keep stress low with yoga or meditation. Also, drink enough water and sleep well.

When to Take Medicines

If your BP stays high even after lifestyle changes, your doctor may give you medicines. It’s important to take them every day without skipping. Regular BP check-ups and doctor visits can help avoid future problems like heart attack or stroke.
